Major John is a South African lighting and furniture studio founded by Paul Whitehead in 2014. Based in Cape Town, the studio creates contemporary statement pieces that explore the relationship between form, material and structure.
Influenced by a background in architecture, Major John’s work celebrates honest materials, visible construction and thoughtful craftsmanship. Rather than hiding the way things are made, bolts, joints and material transitions become part of the design language. Timber, concrete, steel and woven materials are carefully combined to create a balance between warmth and strength, weight and lightness.
