SATEMWA Tea Estates was founded in 1923 by the Scottish emigrant Mclean Kay and is now the last remaining family-owned Tea Estate in Malawi. SATEMWA is in the Thyolo district and is situated at 900 – 1250 m above sea level and includes the highest grown tea in Malawi. We have 900 ha of tea, 400 ha of sustainable blue gum forest and 50 ha of some of the last areas of
Afromontane forest in Southern Malawi that is home to some endemic bird species such as the Cholo alethe.
Production capacity: 2,500 tons black , green CTC teas and about 50 tons of orthodox teas, herbs, flowers that can pack 25 tons under the private label (tea bags or loose)
Certification: Malawi Bureau of Standards. Fair Trade certified UTZ and Rainforest Alliance member and FDA registered
